La Porcherie dates back at least 200 years, and has been renovated, retaining many of the beams, and has a lot of exposed stonework. The walls are very thick, thus keeping the interior cool during the long summer days. The countryside is heavily wooded, and very green. There are many wild birds, and the red squirrel, pine-martin and wild boar can often be seen. The local roads are very quiet, and are ideally suited for cycling. There are many woodland paths and trackways, which are superb for walking or horse riding. Canoeing at Brantome (25kms).
